The Antica Birreria Peroni was founded in the early 1900s (1906) originally as a beer and ice store.
The transformation that gave birth to the present premises began in the 1930s, with the frescoing of the halls by the painter Albani and Dantean and popular quotations by Count Salviucci. Concrete tubs were placed in the present entrance to hold beer bottles, which were covered with finely crushed ice and a large cloth to keep out the cold. Regular customers were served beer in a numbered mug as a courteous expedient so that they could enjoy it in a personalized and exclusive way.
Today, more than 100 years after its birth, the Antica Birreria continues to exert, in respectful renewal of a style, the charm of the times that were, offering that simplicity, atmosphere and conviviality now rarely encountered in Roman restaurants.
The sense of this photographic work is to return this atmosphere, to tell the story of being in a place that is like being at home.
